Lifting Fabric Hangar
Doors Case Study
Meridian
Aviation at Bournemouth Airport had a hangar with a concertina
door. This did not work and was dangerous.
Meridian sought a replacement
hangar door and chose to incorporate a Megadoor Lifting Fabric
Door. Of course this led to the problem of designing and building
the supporting structure to carry the new hangar door, and joining
the structure to the existing aircraft hangar. Megadoor approached
REIDsteel with whom they had built several doors.
REIDsteel
readily designed the new framing. The combination of new hangar
and new structure and joint to the existing hangar was expensive
and gave no extra space. REIDsteel realised that it cost little
more to extend the roof and sidewalls at the same time, and
Meridian Aviation accepted the new offer.
The hangar extension and
new door were completed on time and on budget. Meridian Aviation are
very pleased with the result: "The new door looks smart and
works perfectly; and the extension of one bay gives us far more
flexibility... we now have two extra aircraft bays."
