The hangar is 40m x 52m, with a clear height of 12.6m. The main doors are of steel frame construction and are electrically operated. The doors are bottom rolling on substantial wheels, on tracks complete with adjustable sleepers. The top door guides consist of vertical rollers moving between steel guides, which are protected from the weather by a hood and seals. There are 6 door slabs on 3 tracks, giving an entrance 39m x 12.6m high, each slab having its own electric motor, driving the ground wheels through a reduction gear box and chain drive.

Surrey Air Ambulance is a vital emergency service for the people of Surrey and Sussex. Their new REIDsteel helicopter hangar in Dunford Park spans 16m x 16m, and is 6m high. From here, the Air Ambulance can cover all areas of Surrey, as well as Sussex, and can deliver patients to the nearest hospital within ten minutes.

REIDsteel provided all accessories including the steel hangar door, which has 8 slabs on 4 tracks, giving an entrance 12m wide by 5m high. The door is manually operated.

The Hangar has two sets of 6 leaf "cascade" type rolling doors, one set at each end, with outriggers to allow full width access. They are manually operated through a cable and gearbox mechanism turned by a large handle. 

We designed, made and erected the complete structure using our patented segmental tied portal concept. Design fabrication and erection took 26 weeks.

We also designed and made the electro-mechanical doors complete with outriggers to allow full width opening.
